Here Come The Girls...

Although we didn’t know what was just around at the corner at the time, we now want to share this in the hope that this shoot helps to bring some colour into what, at the moment can feel like quite a dull and dark time. With many lovely couples having to postpone their special days, and small businesses worrying about what is to come, we hope this helps even in the smallest way to lift your mood, bring some creative joy and inspire the dare to be different amongst you!

Planned and styled by myself, Aimee at Velvet Rose Weddings & Events, this bold, vibrant shoot was designed to celebrate women and celebrate that today, not one size fits all – for both brides and their weddings. Shot just a few days before this year’s International Women’s Day, three equally powerful women with different shapes, sizes and styles, came together to highlight that every bride is beautiful.

Put together by a talented ‘boss babe’ team of suppliers, the shoot allowed the ladies to get really creative and with many of today’s modern brides now leaning away from the more traditional in favour of the more contemporary and unconventional, we decided to go bright, colourful and fabulously flamboyant.

Amalfi White, housed in a beautifully restored Victorian building in the stunning Derbyshire village of Melbourne, offered the perfect modern backdrop for the shoot, with their Ballroom’s traditional barrel-vaulted ceiling and eight huge chandeliers glittering above a classically styled space.

Using the all-white ballroom as a perfect blank canvas for colour, I chose to style the space in a collaboration of modern elegance and a bold, yet feminine statement colour pallet of pink, peaches and oranges, for the millennial bride looking for something unique.

Set against my bespoke feature boards as the backdrop for the ceremony space, the stunning blooms by Maria’s Flowers gave the aisle and tables a pop of greenery with the more wild foliage contrasting beautifully with the perfectly matching pastel florals. Executive Linen’s crisp linen, statement pink chargers and pink glassware gave the tables the real wow factor while the delicate ‘Love’ lollipop favours by the talented Sugar Pop Favours added to the playful look perfectly. The always amazing balloon installations by Adorn Events Co used to surround the grand Amalfi White mirror and to create a colourful entrance up the staircase also added to the fun of this shoot creating a real celebratory feel.

The bridal looks, both hair and makeup were executed by the lovely Saskia from Sass + Co. Saskia wanted to create current on trend hairstyles, textured updos, ponytails and loose waves for this shoot. Favouring simple, natural looking styles, she finished the looks with the most gorgeous accessories from Hera Designs London, with lots of pearls and delicate clay flower pins. To complement the hair whilst focussing on the pink colour palette, Saskia went for soft glowing makeup on the girls, keeping everything stripped back, creating flawless skin and highlighting the natural beauty of the fabulous models.

The stunning statement dresses for this shoot came from Ivory White Duffield, where the wonderful Sophie handpicked three looks for each of our gorgeous models, showcasing the truly unique and high fashion gowns available today, that are enabling brides to express and embrace their individuality. Amongst the dresses from brands Essence of Australia, Watters, Willowby by Watters and Pronovias, were some absolute showstoppers; from the more boho lace loveliness of Floriana by Prononias and Bonnie by Willowby, to the bang on trend pearl embellished elegance of the fabulous Pisces by Willowby. Sparkling against the gowns were some beautiful pieces of jewellery provided by Kate Dawson Jewellery used to really tie the looks together and give that added bridal glamour.

Using a mix of pinks and oranges, I created a boho fabric wall as a fun backdrop for the cake, offset by the super on trend ‘Happily Ever After’ neon sign. The gorgeous cake itself was provided by Phillipa at Knot & Bird Bakery. Matching the bright colour palette perfectly with a modern showstopper of a cake, Philippa also provided the perfect fun additions to the treat table with her colourful and absolutely delicious ‘Always & Forever’ cookies.

All of this was captured by the wonderfully talented film photographer, Sophie May Photo whose light and airy style was just perfect for bringing my vision to life. Her vintage style photobooth and props from Palm Booth Studio, available to hire, was the perfect way to end the shoot, capturing the girls at their most relaxed and fun-loving best!

A huge thank you all the wonderful women involved, who were a total joy to work with and took on this bright bold, empowering shoot with a difference with a completely open mind, executing it just perfectly! Who run the world? Definitely, Girls!
